Did you know CommuteSmart is an initiative of the Regional Planning Commission of Greater Birmingham? What is the RPCGB, you ask?

As the RPCGB’s website states, “The RPCGB provides planning services, economic development services and multiple initiatives for six counties and 84 communities throughout central Alabama.”

Because the RPCGB is always working on new ways to improve our region, the Commission is thinking ahead with its regional plan Think Forward 2040.

Per the Think Forward 2040 website, “When completed, Think Forward 2040 will be the 25-year blueprint for economic growth, development, transportation strategies and infrastructure investments. Developed by the Regional Planning Commission of Greater Birmingham (RPCGB), Think Forward 2040 represents a ‘shared vision for sustainable growth’ for the six-county Greater Birmingham region: Blount, Chilton, Jefferson, Shelby, St. Clair, and Walker counties. This shared vision for sustainable growth reflects ‘the big picture’ – the full diversity of the Greater Birmingham region’s communities over an extended period of time.

“The RPCGB’s intent with Think Forward 2040 is to bring the many development-related plans that currently exist, and/or that are being developed, together as part of a unified regional vision. It is envisioned that the Think Forward 2040 process will serve as a regional forum for collaboration, planning, and public decision-making.”

With that being said, we need your help! Ideas are always welcome. Your input can improve our region by answering questions like, “How should we grow? Where should we grow? How should we travel around the region? What kind of infrastructure and services will we need? How much will this cost? How will we pay for it? How will growth affect our environment and quality of life?”

Please visit this public forum website to learn how to share your input and help us create a greater Birmingham!
