The CommuteSmart program, an initiative of the Regional Planning Commission of Greater Birmingham, was created in 1999 to alleviate traffic congestion and reduce air pollution in Jefferson and Shelby counties. CommuteSmart encourages individuals to change their commuting habits and educates them on cleaner modes of transportation. Some of these methods include carpooling, vanpooling, bicycling, walking, teleworking and transit. CommuteSmart is 100 percent federally funded, and all CommuteSmart services are provided at no cost to individual participants, local companies and their employees.

Tell us about your commute. We’d love to hear from you. Email us at commutesmart@rpcgb.org, call us at 1-87-RIDEMATCH, or visit our website at www.commutesmart.org.
